At first, I thought I'd just remake it into a simple shirt, I planned to make it more fitted and leave it at that. But at the last moment I started going through my vintage sewing magazines and looking for a nice pattern to choose to remake the shirt into a dress. That way I knew I could use up the most of the fabric. It seems that most of the shirtdresses of the period (that period being 1950s of course) were cut looser rather than having a close fit. I wanted a fitted shirtdress though, so I went with a pattern for a regular bodice and just laid it over the shirt and proceeded to cut. I sewed everythig up and added a wide strip of grey fabric to finish the skirt. It's a bit short, I think but then again, it's a summer dress and it's ok like this. It reminds me aof nurses' outfits from the 1940s! I do not have the right posture or presence to pull off this look but it's nice to feel like there could be a story behind a piece of clothing I wear.
